Our Team
Gerry Young Sr
Gerry Sr. is a fixture in the Automotive industry in Newfoundland and has carried on a long tradition of excellent customer service that has been ongoing for over 80 years beginning with his grandfather in 1941. Gerry is a Journeyman Automotive Technician who lived his life as a child and grew into a man at the garage. Being one of the hardest workers we know, Gerry is trying to slow down a bit but you can always find him at the garage daily checking in, seeing if we need anything and or picking up parts.
Gerry Young Jr
Gerry is a Journeyman Automotive technician who has been part of the King’s bridge team for well, since he has been born. Gerry grew up around the garage since he was old enough to walk and is now running the show. He has a strong knowledge for the forever changing electrical side of vehicles and over the last couple years he has dove into automotive locksmith work and proving to be quite good at it.
Michelle Young
Known affectionately as the “Ma” of this Ma and Pa operation, Michelle is the engine that keeps King's Bridge running smoothly. Tasked with managing the financial side of things, she can usually be found diligently working on the books for the garage. She might be behind the scenes, but her impact is felt by everyone, from the clients she interacts with to the staff she continually supports.
Amanda Young
An invaluable asset to the King's Bridge Service Station, Amanda is a Journeyman Automotive technician who has been adding her expertise to the team for nearly 13 years. Her journey began with a curiosity for cars, which quickly transformed into a passion for understanding the mechanics under the hood. Her adept knowledge and hands-on experience over the years have made her a formidable force within the team.
Andy Young
Andy Young; A master of small engine repair and a vital component of the King's Bridge team, Andy possesses a journeyman certificate in his field, a testament to his expertise and dedication. With a lifetime steeped in the rhythm of engines and the scent of motor oil, he has cultivated an unparalleled proficiency in his craft.
Troy Pike
Troy has recently joined us as a service advisor and has become a significant part of the King’s Bridge crew. Coming from a parts background, Troy has an excellent knowledge to help people understand what their car needs for a safe and cost effective repair. He is always there to answer you’re your phone calls, and book your appointments with a smile on his face.
Paddy Ivey
Paddy has been working with King’s Bridge Service Station for 25 plus years. Paddy is particularly amazing at welding and fabrication of vehicle fluid lines saving our customers thousands over the years. He is dedicated to keeping your vehicle safer on the road for you and your family.
Roy Morris
Roy moved here from the UK and came to King’s bridge to continue his Technician career. With a lifetime of experience and 12 years working with us, Roy can usually be found repairing daunting European vehicles. With anything from suspension, front end work, brake jobs, to carbon cleaning or turbo replacement, Roy will find a way to get the job done.
Marc Rauchenstein
Marc is a 4th year automotive service technician apprentice who has been working in the industry for many years and with us at King’s Bridge for 3 years. Marc is usually found working hard at brakes, front end work, wheel alignments, tire services, regular maintenance, and lots more. Whatever you can throw at Marc, he is willing to take it on.
Adam Kearley
Adam is a Journeyman Automotive technician who has been part of the King’s Bridge team for over 15 years. Adam got involved in the industry at a young age and has been learning and growing his knowledge ever since. With his willingness to take on any job and an eye for finding all the issues with your vehicle, he proves to be a huge asset to the garage.
Jeremy White
Recently joining the team at King's Bridge Service Station, Jeremy brings a wealth of knowledge and experience as a Journeyman Automotive Technician. His professional journey spans many years across both niche garages and established dealerships. Jeremy is a proactive team member with a relentless motivation for excellence, making him a valuable addition to our team. We are excited to tap into his wide-ranging automotive expertise!
Riley Paul
Riley is a recent addition to our King's Bridge Service Station team, initially stepping in as a technical assistant. However, his keen willingness to learn and contribute has already proven him to be more than just a supporting hand. His innate ability to treat customers with genuine kindness and a friendly smile makes it feel like he's been a part of our team for ages. We are delighted to see him grow and contribute further to our service station.
The Man Behind the Garage:
Honouring the Legacy of James Young
Before you saw him, you could always detect Mr. Young's presence. The telltale scent of a lit cigar in the garage was a sure sign that he was around, ready to share a joke or solve a problem. James Young inherited the family business, King’s Bridge Service Station, from his father, Harry. The original garage, considerably smaller than the current building, was constructed in 1941 during WWII from old car chassis and cement. Its resilient walls could tell many fascinating tales if they had the power of speech.
Mr. Young devoted his life to providing the citizens of St John’s with superior customer service. Residing next door to the garage, he was always ready to answer a call and come to aid anyone in need. He was more than just a businessman; he was a devoted servant to his customers. King’s Bridge Service Station has garnered an esteemed reputation within Newfoundland's automotive industry, and James was the backbone of that success.
His son, Gerry Sr, began assisting at the garage from a young age. As James gradually receded from the daily operations, Gerry Sr took the reins, continuing the legacy. James' other son, Andy, also followed in the family footsteps, managing the small engine side of the business. Now, Gerry Jr, James' grandson, is a pivotal figure in running the garage.
In his later years, James remained a daily fixture at the garage. Whether it was checking in on the staff, interacting with customers, or marveling at the technological advances that had revolutionized his trade, he was a constant presence. At the venerable age of 94, he would arrive at the garage, armed with his trademark smile, cigar in hand, ready to share stories of the past and exchange a hearty laugh with his staff.
James took his leave from us on August 8th, 2022. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter Nancy, leaving behind his cherished wife, Geraldine, four sons: Cecil, Harry, Gerry, Andy, and his daughter, Cathy. His legacy lives on through his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his King’s Bridge family. Jim was more than just an entrepreneur; he was an icon in our city, a legend whose memory we fondly cherish. We hope he’s somewhere out there, cigar in hand, keeping an eye on us. Every day we strive to honour his legacy, and we hope we continue to make him proud.
